Er zijn teveel singer-songwriters die in ’t Nederlands zingen. Zeker in Nederland, maar waarschijnlijk ook in België. There I said it! Iedereen met een gitaar die iets kan rijmen als ‘ik hou van jou, ik blijf je trouw, jij hoort bij mij en ik bij jou,’ mag zichzelf singer-songwriter noemen. Het zijn er zoveel geworden inmiddels, dat ik gewoon het hele genre heb afgesloten.
Nee, dan een genre waarin er, zeker in Nederland, maar waarschijnlijk ook in België, veul te weinig liefhebbers actief zijn, is de Nederlandstalige black metal. Een relatief nieuw bandje dat schreeuwt over dood en verderf, is Levendleed. Afgelopen week bracht deze black metalband uit Alkmaar hun eerste full length uit, Algehele Malaise, het vervolg op het vier nummers tellende demo-album dat zo’n anderhalf jaar geleden uitkwam.
De enige bekende man achter het geheel, is de Alkmaarse tattoo-artist Thomas Acid. Hij schijnt niet alleen de Nederlandse teksten te spuien, maar ook alle instrumenten te bespelen. En dat doet-ie bovengemiddeld goed. Muzikaal klinkt het allemaal erg lekker en het is erg tof dat je op bandcamp kunt meelezen met hetgeen aan Thomas’ brein ontsproten is.

Laten we eerlijk zijn: dat klinkt toch een stuk beter dan ‘ik hou van jou, ik blijf je trouw,’ en meer van die shizzle!

Levendleed is a one man depressive/melancholic black metal band from Alkmaar, The Netherlands. With lyrical themes in the Dutch language including abandonment, a longing for the end of humanity and death that follows. Levend means living, leed means sorrow.
When the demo album dropped in January of 2019, it was well received and Thomas Philip Acid immideately got motivated to start writing on a new album as a follow up. Within a year, Algehele Malaise was written, produced and recorded. The album follows the so-called entity "levendleed" on its quest to partially rid the world of faith and humanity, it succeeds but half way through the album the few survivors that remain, start to confine in each other and their false god once more. The album concludes with total annihilation, including that of the entity itself, which can no longer bear witness to current events and the thought of having to deal with yet another generation of humanity.
It was only two years ago that Thomas picked up his first instrument ever (a bass guitar) and started experimenting with song structure and recording, with some help from his friends who were into creating music a lot longer. He decided on making black metal as it gives the most honest representation of feeling, and it's his favorite genre to listen to.
