Dit zalige drietal uit IJsland leerde ik kennen tijdens mijn eerste jaar als verslaggever bij Brothers In RAW. Hun vierde full album Gateways kon me bekoren en na hun optreden in de AB Club later dat jaar was ik helemaal fan. Minder enthousiast was ik over de opvolger Monuments. De shift naar meer progressieve rock met een snuifje Opeth kwam gewoon niet bij me binnen. Wanneer ik op deze eerste nieuwe single mag afgaan, trekken ze dat in de aanloop naar Portals weer helemaal recht. Riot is stuwende classic rock met een beetje blues en licht psychedelisch Ć©n bomvol vette riffs. Net zoals in hun beginperiode.
Van hun studentikoos-knullige video's ben ik nog steeds geen fan.

"I woke up around 7 am humming the first two riffs and I really liked it and I thought to myself, āIāll go back to sleep for a bit and then Iāll work on thisā. Then I woke up again and I forgot the main riff, which was a bummer and I tried remembering the pattern all day until I gave up and went to bed, right as I was drifting off to sleep it came back to me! Thankfully!
The track is an energetic and heavy one. The lyrics were inspired by the 2024 riots in England. We were touring the country at the time, it was a very surreal thought to be possibly caught up in a Riot and I knew I wouldnāt do very well in that sort of situation, so thatās what inspired me to write the lyrics.
