Sounds | Vera Sola - The Ghostmaster's Daughter

Op 27 april van dit jaar zag ik de ronduit fantastische Vera Sola in Amor (De Roma). Naar het einde van de set nam ze alleen het podium, zichzelf begeleidend op gitaar. Een nummer waarvan ik dacht dat het Ghostmaster heette en dat ik nergens kon terugvinden. "Een oudere song die ik nooit heb uitgebracht. Misschien moet ik dat maar eens doen?" was het antwoord toen ik even polste bij de dame. Een kleine vijf maand later is het zover en krijgen we voor het eerst de 'studio versie' van The Ghostmaster's Daughter te horen. Sola helemaal akoestisch, uitgekleed tot de essentie zodat haar donkere, mysterieuze zang nog meer tot haar recht komt. Die fingerpicking mag er trouwens ook zijn. Meteen de voorbode van een nieuwe ep met herwerkte liedjes van Peacemaker.

Ghostmaster verschijnt op 15 november 2024 via City Slang.

The EP, which features contributions from Marissa Nadler and The Milk Carton Kids, comes ahead of a European tour in November with full dates listed below. 

Vera Sola elaborates: 

“This is a song that originally was set to be on my most recent album, Peacemaker, but didn’t fit sonically or thematically. Since the record release, however, it’s become a favorite to play. I’ve also received countless requests for where to find it. Here is the answer. 

I re-recorded it following the first leg of the tour, and offer it up as just my voice and guitar, as close to what you’d hear from me on stage as possible. 

In brief it’s a love story staged across lifetimes—which at its core touches upon the possibility of transformation and transcendence. The end of a romance doesn’t have to mean the end of love. All that ends offers a chance at a beginning.  

Along with it is to come a handful of reimagined tracks from the full Peacemaker LP. Reimagined might not be the right word. Remembered is more like it; as I wanted to present what these songs were like when I wrote them initially.”
