"In 12th-century legends, the Maisnie Hellequin was a band of malevolent spirits or tormented souls who, led by Hellequin, made a terrifying nightly uproar..."

La Maisnie Hellequin is a five-piece medieval heavy metal band featuring nyckelharpa, hurdy-gurdy, bagpipes, davul/bass, and Irish bouzouki/electric guitar. Formed around 2013 by Sabrina (hurdy-gurdy) and Nicolas (bagpipes), the band began touring various medieval festivals across Belgium. Later joined by Mathieu (nyckelharpa) and Maxime (davul and electric bass), they recorded their debut album, Eissil, in 2017. The album explored sounds borrowed from the medieval repertoire, revisited with a signature 'Hellequin' touch that already defined the band's high energy. In 2022, the release of the album Ars Moriendi marked a definitive turning point in the band's history.

With this release, La Maisnie Hellequin fully embraces its metal side, a genre all band members are deeply passionate about. Killian joined the lineup in 2023 on electric guitars and Irish bouzouki, cementing the shift toward much more aggressive sonics. For their metal lineup, they are joined by Gaetan on drums, with Maxime shifting from davul to electric bass. The band now performs at medieval, pagan, and metal festivals across Europe (Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Netherlands, Switzerland, Italy). They are currently hard at work on their third album, set for release in 2027.
