Ik heb geen idee van wat er in het water zit in het Nederlandse Gelderland, maar één ding staat vast: de streek brengt muzikaal talent weer. Bennekomse artiest Mink Koops trok eerder al mijn aandacht met projecten als Solar Temple en Iskandr, en nu ook met Fluisteraars. Gelaagde, atmosferische black metal die existentiële thema’s aansnijdt en imponeert met albumnamen als ‘Gegrepen door de geest der zielsontsluiking’ en binnenkort ‘Manifestaties van de Ontworteling’.
Als teaser van die laatste deelt de band nu het nummer ‘Der Kunst’. Mijn verwachtingen waren gedempt geschreeuw en lang uitgesponnen riffs met die kenmerkende rommelige jaren 90-sound van op hun vorige albums. Niets blijkt echter minder waar. Het nummer opent met traag opbouwende tonen. Wind. Iets dat klinkt zoals testbeeld eruitziet. “Ze kiezen voor een lange intro”, denk ik nog. Maar neen. Der Kunst is een meditatieve uitknop voor je brein. Absoluut geen black metal, wel een uitnodiging om maar liefst 12,52 minuten uit te zonen en te ontdekken hoe boeiend non-descriptief geluid kan zijn.
