Last night’s concert at Bozar was an emotional rollercoaster. The evening began with a tight chest and shaky hands, going from personal nerves behind the lens to a heartwarming, high-energy musical ride led by Jamie Cullum, with a memorable opening act by Billy Lockett.

It was my first time photographing in this iconic venue, and my first visit in a long time. I’d forgotten how narrow the space is and just how difficult it can be to capture captivating shots from the far corners. The non ideal angles and challenging lighting made capturing the essence of the performance a discouraging task. But then the music started, and everything changed.

Jamie Cullum opened in an unusually intimate setting—surrounded by his band, he delivered “Teller” with only subtle accompaniment from drums and double bass. The stripped-back arrangement set the tone for a show full of warmth, spontaneity, and playful showmanship. Known hits like "Everyone Wants to Be a Cat", "Get Your Way", and "Work of Art" pleased the crowd, while reaching a prak during "Mankind" when Cullum leaped into the audience, shaking hands, snapping selfies, and even climbing the banister to engage the balcony. His enthusiasm was infectious.

A highlight was "Ready for Love", where Jamie transformed the piano into a full-body percussion instrument and orchestrated the audience as a vocal ensemble. Ever the charming storyteller, he reminded the crowd of his love for Tintin and Brussels’ special place in his touring history. It took a few songs, but eventually Jamie encouraged the seated audience to get up and dance, turning the grand Bozar into an impromptu nightclub. The night ended on a high with an instrumental cover of "Killing in the Name", followed by a two-song encore, closing with a soulful "What a Difference a Day Made".

Opening the night was Billy Lockett, an unexpected revelation. Taking the stage without introduction, he let his music speak first. What followed was a mix of heartfelt songs about love, peppered with humorous self-introductions and audience banter. His journey—from The Voice UK to this second-ever performance in Belgium—resonated deeply. Billy’s vulnerability and sincerity won hearts, promising a return that many in the audience will eagerly await, headphones ready to hit replay.
