Een vierde single vertelt ingetogen het verhaal van hoe een relatie gedoemd is om te falen. Niet die van henzelf mag ik hopen, want Mackenzie Porter en Jake Etheridge brengen véél te mooie liedjes om nu al de handdoek in de ring te gooien. Canaries In A Coal Mine laat opnieuw hun tedere country/folk kant horen. Het nummer ontstond tijdens een kerstvakantie in Mexico en werd gefinaliseerd terug thuis in Nashville. Zalig trouwens hoe hier een cello en banjo blenden.
Bijna niet te geloven dat het méér dan tien jaar heeft geduurd voor dit prachtige koppel voor het eerst samen een liedje schreef. Happy Ever After You markeerde de start van wat tot nu een succesvolle samenwerking blijkt. Porter en Etheridge werken aan hun eerste EP die niet al te lang meer op zich zal laten wachten.

Produced by Lonas, the duo wrote today's new song “Canaries in a Coal Mine” alongside Scott Stepakoff and Josh Osborne. Their harmonies paint a picture of sorrow and defeat. “With heartbreak in their harmonies and fire in their veins” (Atwood Magazine), Porter and Etheridge sing about knowing a relationship was doomed:
The new song adds to their growing catalog featuring viral “Happy Ever After You,” “First Love” and most recent “Chainsmokin Memories.” Not realizing the best writing partner was right under their noses the whole time, their first co-write in over a decade produced “Happy Ever After You,” propelling them into a new musical journey.
