Sounds | Sophia Scott - Tumbleweed

Written by Scott, Ross Copperman (Luke Bryan, Keith Urban), and Ava Suppelsa (Flatland Cavalry, Carly Pearce) and produced by Sam Martinez (Shaboozey, Graham Barham), “Tumbleweed” opens as the Colorado-bred artist looks back on her journey so far and her struggle to stay grounded in relationships (“I’ve always had one foot out the door/My boots have been broken in/From all the searching for something more”). In the tradition of heartfelt songs like “Lipstick on You” (a sweetly devastating standout from her acclaimed 2023 debut album Barstool Confessions), the Country-Rock slow-burner unlocks a tremendous depth of emotion by weaving in plenty of deeply personal yet poetic details (cowboys and blackbirds, tequila and smoke, rolling tides and untamable flames). With its dreamlike textures and gorgeously sparse guitar tones — and a sublimely soulful vocal turn from Scott — “Tumbleweed” ultimately builds to a chorus that beautifully conveys her blissed-out wonder (“Boy, only you/Could go put some roots/On a tumbleweed”).

Earlier this week, Scott made waves with her first-ever UK headline show — a SOLD-OUT date at Colours Hoxton in London, featuring Abbie Mac as support. Thanks to her fast-growing overseas fanbase, Scott will also head to Europe in March for back-to-back shows in Rotterdam and Berlin (a pair of dates scheduled as part of C2C: Country to Country, Europe’s biggest Country music festival).

The new track is the latest turn in a triumphant year that’s included being named a Pandora Artist To Watch 2024: Country, a 2024 Artist To Watch by Nashville Briefing, as well as making her Ryman Auditorium debut as part of Niko Moon’s coast-to-coast THESE ARE THE DAYS TOUR. “Tumbleweed” also arrives as Scott continues to heat up the holiday season with her recently released rendition of “Winter Wonderland.” A fiery and fun-loving take on the Christmas classic, “Winter Wonderland” dropped last month alongside Scott’s stripped-back and stunning cover of Wham!’s “Last Christmas.”
