Sounds | Sgt. Splendor, All Dead to Me

Sgt. Splendor is a new project from renowned singer/songwriter Kate Vargas and guitarist Eric McFadden (George Clinton & the P-Funk All Stars, Eric Burdon & The Animals).

What was the inspiration behind the musical project and collaboration? This one started with the guitar lick in a room at The Holiday Music Motel with our friend Andrea Wittgens and the critical condition that we call The Fuck-Its. It began pre-pandemic and was finished at the height of lockdown on a Mad Max-in James Trussart guitar. Sgt. Splendor was born from the latter as well.

What are the lyrical themes of the song? Utter dusty dystopia.

Any other side projects or projects you want to plug? While you’re at it, check out Kate Vargas and Eric McFadden’s individual music. Sgt. Splendor is the sonic soup of all of that.

Anything else you’d like to add? We’re pretty thrilled about the great players who joined us on this record. Dave Schools (Widespread Panic) played bass and Paulo Baldi (Claypool Lennon Delirium, CAKE) played drums. There are also appearances by Angelo Moore (Fishbone), Jerry Harrison (Talking Heads) and Pat mAcDonald (Timbuk3).
