Liefde voor Muziek, seizoen 9 (2023): ik word omver geblazen door twee muzikanten die ik al eens had zien passeren, maar waar ik nooit aandacht aan had besteed. Nope, Portland was tot op dat moment niets voor mij. En zou het uiteindelijk ook nooit worden want die hemelse tweede stem had eigenlijk al de band verlaten. Ik verloor ook Sarah Pepels (tevens Glitterpaard en Madoux) uit het oog. Tot Instagram de redding bracht onder vorm van een fragment van het nummer Re.Versed. Een song reeds in 2019 geschreven als onderdeel van een bachelor proef aan de PXL Hogeschool. "Hoe zou je de song nu benaderen, een aantal jaar na je bachelor proef, nu je meer ervaring en kennis hebt?", werd haar gevraagd voor het project Herperst. Re.Verse (de oorspronkelijke titel) werd helemaal uitgekleed en tot de essentie herleid, in haar meest pure, meest kwetsbare vorm. Sarah begeleidt zichzelf op piano en krijgt steun van een altviool (Stefan Wellens). Ze laat de noten zweven, neemt haar tijd om het verhaal te vertellen en laat ruimte. Véél ruimte. Na 2'20" denk je dat de song erop zit, maar eigenlijk begint die nog maar. Louter stem, piano en viool, geen tekst gedurende de volgende twee minuten. Tot slot laat Sarah het liedje gepast uitdoven.

Sarah Pepels, is a singer-songwriter from Belgium, based in Antwerp. She studied music

(singing, songwriting) at PXL Music in Hasselt, Belgium.

Sarah co-founded indie-dreampop band Portland, of which Sarah and Jente were the front

duo. They won a major radio contest from Studio Brussels (De Nieuwe Lichting) in 2018.

Many shows and festivals followed, including Rock Werchter, Pukkelpop, plus sold out tours

in various countries and they participated in popular tv show (Liefde Voor Muziek). Portland

released 2 studio albums, of which the second ‘Departures’ (#4 album in Belgium) was

recorded in London with producer Oli Bayston. After 8 years, Sarah left Portland in March

2023 to pursue a solo career.

Sarah Green took some time to find herself, return to her inner child, figured out who she

truly is and always has been and her connection with music. Inspired by William Turner’s

unfinished work, she does not seek for a finish line or an end result. The ‘unfinished’ work is

breathing, questioning, leaving space for interaction, trial and error. This way of approaching music, art, is eye opening and awakens resistance; the way we consume and overstimulate each other, leaves us overwhelmed and overdosed by the noise of the world. So let’s return to our innocence, our vulnerability, our fragile, caring hearts, our togetherness, safety, joy, appreciation, trust .. we need understanding, respect, connection and support more than ever.

Sarah creates unpredictable musical textures. Where melancholic indie-pop flirts with

cinematic elements, you hear her fragile heart. A therapeutic approach to a personal story.

The translation of a dark sea of dreams, its undertow rather than its waves. Meet her, hold

your breath and dive into her world.
