Magistraal wat deze Noorderburen hier met Unravel in de ether gooien. Op het eerste gehoor niet mijn ding, dacht ik, maar o wee, hoe verkeerd kan een mens zijn!
Na de harde, dreigende intro schakelt het nummer plots over naar een Radiohead-isch ritme, waar het stem-timbre van Tymon Kruidenier warempel eerst een kruising is tussen Thom Yorke en Jeff Buckley, maar vervolgens in ondersteuning van wat steviger drum-en gitaargeweld zonder problemen omschakelt naar het betere melodische brulwerk.
Ook instrumentaal is het echt top, met als toetje een gitaarsolootje om u tegen te zeggen.
Zelden in dit genre een completer nummer gehoord en onmiddellijk fan dus!
Unravel is de eerste single van hun nieuwe LP While Time Disappears, dat in de herfst van dit jaar wordt uitgebracht. Zanger Tymon kan er zelf het volgende over kwijt:
"'Unravel' is probably one of the more unique songs on the album, with its uptempo vibe and many ups and downs. It’s about recognising and breaking down the plethora of coping mechanisms we tend to build into our sense of self over the course of our lives. It’s a song about rediscovering who you are underneath it all. It was the first song we wrote for the new album and it was obvious from the very beginning that this had to be the opening track on the album as well as the first single release."
