Memoriam is qua naam een relatief jonge band maar de leden zijn allemaal doorleefde death metal veteranen. Ontstaan als een soort van rouwproces door (ex-)leden van o.a. Bolt Thrower, Sacrilege en Benediction is Memoriam uitgegroeid van een project tot een volwaardige band die binnenkort (26 maart) al hun vierde album in vijf jaar tijd zullen uitbrengen via Reaper Music. Een eerste digitale single, Onwards Into Battle, werd nu al vooruitgeschoven, met begeleiding van een fraaie lyric video.
Het nieuwe album zal To The End gaan heten. De band nam na drie albums afscheid van Nuclear Blast en tekende bij het mooie label Reaper Music.
To The End markeert het begin van een tweede trilogie van albums en dient als een soort proloog op de eerste drie Memoriam-albums. Achterwaarts werkend en het levensverhaal vertellend van de leider wiens overlijden werd afgebeeld in de eerste trilogie, kunnen de teksten op het album zich afspelen in een fictief rijk, maar ze bevatten inspiratie uit het echte leven. Een centraal thema van oorlog is gekleurd met politieke fulminaties en alledaagse ervaringen die samen een samenhangende en boeiende kroniek vormen.

"Onwards into Battle" is the opening track from the new album "To the End". A powerful introduction that sets the tone of the album and gives the listener a taste of what is to come.
Lyrically the track provides continuity from the previous album "Requiem for Mankind" and is similar in many ways to the track "Fixed Bayonets". The lyrics focus on the start of battle "Zero Hour" which is appropriate for the start of the album. Within the theme of "War" the lyrics explore the brutally of trench warfare specifically.
The war continues. Let battle commence."
Hailing from Birmingham, England, MEMORIAM are an Old School Death Metal outfit featuring Karl Willetts (Ex-Bolt Thrower), Scott Fairfax (As The World Dies, Ex-Benediction live), Frank Healy (Ex-Benediction, Sacrilege) and Andy Whale (Ex-Bolt Thrower). It all began when four veterans of the genre got together to discuss playing covers of the bands that influenced them along the way, however it soon became apparent that the high calibre of musicianship would lead to a resurgence of the genre, through new and original content. Three albums later, with numerous Club shows and festivals around Europe, MEMORIAM have cemented their name amongst the elite of Death Metal and they are here to stay!
