Zijn inspiratie haalt Marty O’Reilly bij de grondleggers van americana. Zijn sound refereert naar folk legendes als Woodie Guthrie, blues grootheden als Howlin’ Wolf, gospel pioniers als Sister Rosetta Thorpe en meester verhalenvertellers als Tom Waits. Ik voeg daar nog graag iemand aan toe die binnen enkele jaren ook als een legende zal omschreven worden, m.n. Ray Lamontagne. Marty noemt Ray als een invloed wanneer het op de stem aankomt. Beide hebben diezelfde natuurlijke ‘korrel’ en zingen met zoveel soul dat hun nummers zonder moeite hard binnenkomen.
Tweede single Not Like This is een soulvol, van blues doorspekt nummer over het einde van een relatie. Gebaseerd op Love and Happiness van Al Green en geschreven vanuit het (imaginaire) standpunt van een koppel dat beseft dat ze uit elkaar zijn gegroeid. De rijke productie en dynamische instrumentatie kanaliseren perfect de rauwe emotie van de song.
