Sounds | HEALTH - Ordinary Loss

De start van het najaar gaat typisch gepaard met een reeks nieuwe albumaankondigingen. En daar horen natuurlijk singles bij. Eentje die vanochtend mijn aandacht trok, is “Ordinary Loss” van het Amerikaanse HEALTH.

HEALTH staat voor een originele mix van behoorlijk pessimistische teksten, synth wave, industriële beats en een stevige portie metal. Dat optimisme niet aan de orde is, bevestigt zanger en gitarist Jake Duzsik in een statement bij hun nieuwe album Conflict DLC:

“No, it’s not just your imagination. The future is shit and the phone you are reading this on is making it worse, but please don’t put it down. We are delighted to announce 12 new tracks of anger, fear, sadness and death, and to beg for yet more of your addled attention.” 

Vergeet doezelige Indian summer vibes: HEALTH gaat voor “an album of anger, fear, and catharsis built for the end times.” Gezelligheid troef.

Laat je echter niet afschrikken door zoveel doom and gloom. Deze Ordinary Loss spreekt vanaf de eerste luisterbeurt aan en is zowaar best dansbaar. Het unieke geluid van de band is bovendien toegankelijk voor zowel liefhebbers van elektronische muziek als van het zwaardere materiaal. Of je jezelf dus in het onheil van deze wereld wilt dompelen of het net wilt overstemmen: met Ordinary Loss lukt beide.

Een aanrader voor fans van Perturbator, Drab Majesty, Author & Punisher en Carpenter Brut.
