Dat Griekenland meer te bieden heeft dan de Zorba en bouzouki's wisten wij natuurlijk al langer dan vandaag. Maar om één of andere reden geraken Griekse metalbands schijnbaar moeilijker tot bij ons dan een pakje fetakaas. Wanneer ons dan iets wordt aangeboden als zijnde een "Greek post-black metal collective" spitsen wij graag onze oren.
Euphrosyne bracht al twee full albums uit (in 2022 en 2025) die ik nog moet ontdekken. Dit Mother Earth Betrayed Us is alvast de voorbode uit hun nieuwe album dat momenteel nog volop in de maak is. En dit is zeker steengoede post-black, met gitaarlagen die zich opspannen als de betere latexverf, een drummer die soms bovenmenselijke tempo's ontwikkelt, maar vooral een zangeres die alle aspecten van haar vocale capaciteiten etaleert, van mooie cleane zang tot felle (maar dan niet van die snijdende ijle zoals bij sommige andere post-black metalacts) screams.
Euphrosyne is er met andere woorden dus eentje om in de gaten te houden.

Following the strong impact of their previous album Morus, released via Swedish Black Lion Records, which received highly positive reviews from international media and was featured as “Album of the Month” in March by Metal Hammer Greece, Euphrosyne return with this striking new single, offering the first glimpse into their upcoming album.
Diving deep into themes of environmental collapse and human arrogance, the track confronts the devastating impact of mankind on the planet. The haunting phrase, “Mother Earth betrayed us by letting us exist,” echoes at the song’s conclusion, reinforcing the idea that nature has allowed humankind to walk its own path toward self-destruction, a consequence of its actions against the planet.
With this new material, Euphrosyne push their sound further into more experimental and modern territory, incorporating new elements and expanded vocal dynamics, including the addition of male vocals that bring a new dimension to their sonic identity. The single also marks the debut of Pavlos Lyritis as bassist and backing vocalist.
