Elvenking! Even waan ik me nostalgisch terug in de middelbare school, waar deze band me liet kennismaken met een subgenre binnen de metalscene waar ik op dat moment nog geen kennis van had. Powermetal met folkinvloeden noemen zij het officieel, zelf zet ik af en toe zeker nog eens dat ene nummer op dat ik toen meermaals meegebruld heb. Na al die jaren ken ik de lyrics nog steeds vanbuiten (geniet gerust eens mee via de link onder het artikel).
Verder moet ik toegeven dat ik deze band wat uit het oog verloren heb, hun laatste album Reader of the Runes - Divination heb ik wel enkele keren beluisterd, maar somehow is dat album niet in mijn playlists blijven hangen. Sinds eind maart hebben ze nu dus een nieuw nummer uit, The Moon and Magic. Een typisch Elvenking nummer, dat ze zelf een brug noemen tussen hun vorig album en wat nog zal komen. Mij hebben ze alleszinds overtuigd om dat vorig album eens te beluisteren dit weekend.

A clear statement and display of their pagan roots, Elvenking sing of "The Moon And Magic" - an enchanting folk'ish track full of atmosphere. The band states: "The Moon and Magic” is the link between “Reader of the Runes – Divination” and the next chapters of the story to come. The song was written with the rest of the Divination material and was recorded during the sessions of the album but we wanted to have a bridge-song to be released between the first and the second album. It has been the last song written for the album with this specific idea in mind. The mood of both the music and the lyrics is kind of “calm-before-the storm”, a scene that catches the silence before everything reaches its climax.
