Sounds | Cradle of Filth - White Hellebore e.a.

Het Engelse Cradle of Filth draait al een paar jaar mee. Sterker nog: volgend jaar vieren ze hun 35-jarig bestaan! Ben benieuwd of dat nog een feestje oplevert ...

Wat wel altijd feestjes zijn, zijn de videoclips die gepaard gaan met nieuwe nummers van deze club. En omdat volgende week het 14e (!) studioalbum van Cradle of Filth uitkomt (genaamd The Screaming Of The Valkyries), zijn we de afgelopen weken al een paar keer getrakteerd op vette visuele steunzolen bij nieuwe nummers.

Het meest recente wapenfeit is White Hellebore, waarvan de clip hierboven staat. Een paar weken geleden waren muziekcritici erg te spreken over de verknipte video die hoorde bij To Live Deliciously:

De eerste single die echter van het komende album kwam, was Malignant Perfection, dat in eerste instantie toch wel een beetje gekke indruk wekte, met zijn té poppy begin. Gelukkig veranderde het in de loop van het nummer in een meer "Cradle of Filth-sound".... 'She comes with malignant perfection Mass erection Temples praise the brazen goddess'. En ook dit nummer werd weer ondersteund door een toffe video:

Kortom: Cradle of Filth heeft de afgelopen tijd weer precies dat gedaan wat van hen verwacht werd en hebben daarbij geenszins teleurgesteld. Evenmin zullen we volgende week worden teleurgesteld als The Screaming Of The Valkyries eindelijke écht uitkomt.

Punt van orde: Cradle of Filth is de komende tijd op tour in de VS, maar komt deze zomer weer terug naar Europa. Op 5 juli staan ze in Leffinge (BE) en op 13 juli in Maastricht. Bovendien spelen ze een dag eerder op Pitfest in Emmen.

Menacing album opener “To Live Deliciously” hits immediately with rhythmic urgency, built around a Libertine lyrical hook that twists and writhes with aggression, atmosphere, and melody, before “Demagoguery” blends dark beauty, blast beats and slaytanic groove as only Cradle can combine. Across the album’s blunt and unforgiving yet inviting expanse, Cradle summons the succulent flavors of classic albums like Dusk And Her Embrace and Cruelty And The Beast with the galloping (but no less fierce) thunder of recent entries Hammer Of The Witches and Existence Is Futile. Flashes of early metal influences coalesce with carnivorous glee into unapologetic death ‘n’ roll. Anchored by arguably the most mournful melody in their catalog, “Non Omnis Moriar” (“I shall not wholly die”) could be a cousin to Paradise Lost or Anathema, inverted through Cradle’s thorny prism. “You Are My Nautilus” is the darkest song Iron Maiden never wrote, spinning an epic tale with dueling guitars, while “Ex Sanguine Draculae” conjures Dusk-era atmosphere with imaginative new colors.

Produced, recorded, mixed and mastered by Scott Atkins at Grindstone Studios in Suffolk, England, The Screaming of the Valkyries beckons the brave into a new era of CRADLE OF FILTH misadventure, celebrating massive melancholic melody, blackened thrash, and apocalyptic existential dread with a grinning smattering of unbridled revelry.
