Sounds | Cowboys & Aliens - Icy Grip

Hail to the king, baby.

Meer info

Cowboys & Aliens is a four-piece stoner rock band from Bruges, Belgium. Formed in 1996, they are true pioneers of the genre in the Benelux — one of the first bands in the region to go all-in on heavy, riff-driven rock at a time when that took real conviction.

Their debut League Of Fools (1998) laid the foundation, but it was A Trip To The Stonehenge Colony (2000) and Love Sex Volume (2002) that put them on the map — two records that became genuine landmarks in the Belgian heavy rock scene and remain highly sought-after to this day. Language Of Superstars followed in 2005 before the band stepped back for a few years.

The hiatus didn’t last. Cowboys & Aliens returned in 2011 with the Sandpaper Blues Knockout EP, including a memorable appearance at DesertFest Antwerp and a second stint opening for Deep Purple at Vorst Nationaal. Surrounded By Enemies (2014) kept the momentum going, followed by Horses of Rebellion (2019) and BURN (2022) — both released on POLDERRECORDS on CD and vinyl. In 2021, POLDERRECORDS also brought back the long sold-out Stonehenge Colony and Love Sex Volume in a deluxe remastered double digipack, finally putting those legendary records back in people’s hands.

In between, Cowboys & Aliens built a formidable live reputation — touring with Monster Magnet, opening for Queens of the Stone Age, Deep Purple, Soulfly and Danzig, and playing countless festivals across Europe.

Now, thirty years after their formation, the band releases FINIS TEMPORUM on POLDERRECORDS — album number seven, and another chapter in a catalogue that few Belgian bands can match. Heavy riffs, anthemic choruses, a touch of psychedelia. Same band. Still delivering.

FINIS TEMPORUM — "the end of times" — is the title Cowboys & Aliens chose for their seventh album and their 30th anniversary release. It's a bold statement, but one this band has earned.

The album opens with Life Tree and Rabbit Hole before delivering Vengeance Of The Weird, a track that had already been released as a standalone single back in June 2024 — long before a new record was even on the horizon. Lead single Icy Grip followed in 2025: a post-grungy stoner track with a killer chorus and a dark, heavy production, written in the shadow of personal loss. Lyrics loaded with symbolism about grief and hope, wrapped in the unmistakable Cowboys & Aliens sound. Ordinary Bliss rounds out the new material before the album closes with a full reimagining of Asteroid Blast — originally recorded for A Trip To The Stonehenge Colony back in 2000, now rerecorded, remixed and remastered. A nod to where it all began, and a quiet full circle moment on a record that feels like one.

FINIS TEMPORUM is not an album born out of obligation or commercial calculation. It's the sound of a band that still had something to say — and said it.
