Sounds | AHAB - Colossus Of The Liquid Graves

The Coral Tombs verschijnt op 13 januari 2023 via Napalm Records.

Says guitarist Christian Hector about the new single and video:

“I've always wanted to have a video for AHAB like 'Colossus of the liquid graves'. Actually we developed the ideas for a storyboard ourselves during a flight to a show in Athens - which was a great experience. It was so inspiring to see our ideas animated literally little by little. Needless to say, the team of puppet builders, stop motion animators and camera operators did an awesome job on getting it all done the way we had it in our minds. The story itself is quite gloomy and the video breathes life into our cover artwork. We’re all very excited and thankful for this fine little moving picture.“

The year 2022 was signalised by a remarkable incident, a mysterious and puzzling phenomenon, which doubtless no one has forgotten. Not to mention rumours which agitated the maritime population and excited the public mind, even in the interior of continents, seafaring men were particularly excited. Merchants, common sailors, captains of vessels, skippers, naval officers of all countries and the doom communities of all states on the seven continents, were deeply interested in the matter: AHAB announced their fifth album after seven years of mere silence.

Well, sorry… But most of this introduction is actually stolen from the very beginning of Jules Verne’s masterpiece 20000 Leagues Under The Sea. And yes, you guessed right: AHAB took inspiration from one of the greatest works of this grand seigneur of science fiction.

No suprise, the german gentlemen of Nautik Doom – by the way a genre they invented – again interprete a maritime novel. But the opening of their new album „The Coral Tombs“ will be a surprise indeed.

Short notes from the past:

  • 2004: AHAB was founded by Daniel Droste and Christian Hector as the first Nautik Funeral Doom duo with the concept of interpreting great maritime novels musically

  • 2008: Stephan completes the ultimate AHAB-line-up with Cornelius on drums, Stephan on bass, Chris on guitars and Daniel on guitars & vocals

  • First Funeral Doom band to enter the german media control album charts (#76 in 2015)

  • Played Hellfest, Summer Breeze, Wacken, Brutal Assault, Inferno, Roadburn and many more of the finest festivals

  • Interpreted the novels Moby Dick (H. Melville), The wreck of the whale ship Essex (Owen Chase), The narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym (E. A. Poe), The boats of the Glen Carrig (W. H. Hodgson)

  • Guest vocals of Herbrand Larsen (back then Enslaved), Olaf Iverssen (Sagh)

2023 is their 18th year as a band
