Een machtige mix van blues rock, stoner en sludge laat deze interessante vierkoppige formatie, met thuisbasis Budapest, horen op hun derde EP. Hou je van een donkere, zware, en slepende sound en van een zangeres met een serieus stel cojones? Niet twijfelen dan. Het merendeel van de tracks sleept zich aan een traag tot gemiddeld tempo vooruit alsof de muzikanten zichzelf en hun instrumenten door een moeras moeten worstelen. Hier en daar wordt een sfeervolle rustpauze ingebouwd zodat de luisteraar toch iets van nuance krijgt. De songs zijn hebben een lekkere vintage touch en wijken niet sterk van elkaar af. Enkel de afsluiter springt er lichtjes uit en had de psychedelische toer op kunnen gaan, hadden ze alles een wat lichtere vibe gegeven en er een meanderende gitaarpartij ingestoken.

Nog een band die je zeker live moet gaan zien, al wordt het momenteel een trip richting Hongarije, Roemenië en de omringende landen.

Woodstock Barbie just released their 3rd EP ‘Witch of the Dice’ that is even stronger than ever. From cats to rotten unicorns, take the new journey with them through darkening deserts.

Woodstock Barbie opened a new chapter with their new EP ‘Witch of the Dice’ in their unique musical world. The band started releasing new songs in the last couple of months, and need to mention: new tour dates in the region too, and they seem to be having a crazy exciting springtime. Their first ever vinyl album arrives, their kick-off show will be together with Mother’s Cake (A), and they won’t stop ‘till the Summer ends.

Sandra, the singer of the band, pointed to Rotten Unicorn, the album’s closing title, as her favourite song. She said “This became my ultimate favourite. Hazy, melancholic, maybe a bit dark, with a unique instrumentation, the vocal’s atmosphere has a celtic influence. For myself it has the vibe of being at a Busójárás [an annual winter expelling celebration of Mohács, Hungary] when someone stabs you with a burning pitchfork, in red lights in the time of sunset.”
