Nee, niet de magistrale The Black Keys, de tijdloze The Black Crows, de soulbrothers Black Pumas of onze Gentse The Black Box Revelation, maar The Black Angels uit Austin (Texas), die al sinds 2004 ongelooflijk goeie psychedelische rock maken. Wie ze niet kent, heeft heel wat in te halen, want de band brengt vijf jaar na Death Song met Wilderness of Mirrors hun zevende LP uit. Songs als Manipulation (2006), Entrance Song (2010) of zelfs Too Much Hate (2021), een solo Levitation-performance van zanger Alex Maas, zijn absolute anthems uit de 21-eeuwse muziekgeschiedenis.
Simpel gezegd, ik ben fan en superblij met de release van hun nieuwe album.
Ze droppen met Wilderness of Mirrors vijftien parels van nummers, die je meenemen in de wereld van de betere muziek.
De eerste drie nummers zijn The Angels ten voeten uit, samen met Wilderness of Mirrors en Icon, maar luister vooral eens naar El Jardin, Firefly, 100 Flowers of Paracusia, Vermillion Eyes of Suffocation. Geloof me, dit is de beste LP van 2022 tot nu toe. Trust me!
