Sounds | Ray Lamontagne - It Takes Me Back

Het is voor mij altijd opnieuw vol spanning uitkijken naar een nieuwe Ray Lamontagne. Welke richting (binnen americana gewoonlijk) gaat hij deze keer uit? Zijn laatste album, Monovision uit 2020, liet een terugkeer naar zijn beginperiode horen. Alsof de geschiedenis zich herhaalt, hoor ik deze keer de countryinvloeden uit God Willin' ... terug opduiken, maar dan nog eens versterkt. Een pak minder 'folk' en 'rock', bijna richting John Denver, maar dan pakkender. Zijn kenmerkende gitaarsound wordt aangevuld met een prachtig harmonicageluid, pedal steel en wat conga's. Ray's stemgeluid blijft onmiskenbaar en zijn grootste troef. Laat dat nieuwe album maar komen. En die EU tour waar we al zo verschrikkelijk lang op wachten verdikke!

Nog helemaal geen pr gevonden dat samen gaat met dit nieuwe nummer, dus neem ik een bio over met vermelding dat die wel even geupdate mag worden. - John Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter Ray LaMontagne returned to the stage on his 2019 Just Passing Through acoustic tour, highlighting songs from his vast and varying body of work. LaMontagne played songs spanning across his albums including Trouble, Till The Sun Turns Black, Gossip in the Grain, God Willin’ & The Creek Don’t Rise, Supernova, Ouroboros, and Part Of The Light.

On his previous solo tours, critics across the US were raving about his performance. Consequence of Sound said, “Hearing Ray LaMontagne perform live is a poignant and magical experience,” while The Boston Herald raved, “LaMontagne's voice remains a marvel, quiet and reflective one minute and forceful and impassioned the next. It really is an amazing instrument.”

Ray LaMontagne has released 7 studio albums, 5 of which have reached Top 10 on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums chart and Billboard’s Digital Albums chart. Additionally, Ray’s 2010 album God Willin’ & the Creek Don’t Rise won the Grammy for Best Folk Album and was nominated in the coveted Song of The Year category for “Beg Steal or Borrow.”
